Through the Future Ready Collier Early Learning Workgroup, we have recognized significant gaps in resources for children age 0-5 in our community.
Research has shown that children in poverty suffer a 30-million-word gap from children in college educated homes.
Recognizing that parents are a child’s first teacher, a group of literacy and program leaders in our community met to create the Early Literacy Book Recommendation List (see below link). This list was designed to help parents select quality and age appropriate books to develop literacy and vocabulary skills and foster their child’s love of reading.
